You'll start your day by fueling up with a hearty breakfast, and if you like breakfast burritos, you'll love having the one on this adventure!
After breakfast, hit the slopes at Marquette Mountain. If you have ski equipment, great. If not, Marquette Mountain has rentals available -- no worries.
Après ski at Iron Bay Restaurant and Drinkery. They have delightful drinks and delicious meals. It's the perfect place to end your day.
Java Bay
Start your morning with Marquette’s best breakfast burrito (square-shaped and delicious!), or customize your own breakfast sandwich at Java Bay. When we went, they were easygoing about my not-exactly-on-the-menu request for an egg, cheese, and avocado breakfast sandwich on an English muffin. Chris LOVED their breakfast burrito and the fact that hot sauce options are on the tables.
At their coffee station, in addition to the typical sugar and cream options, they have cinnamon. I love sprinkling both cinnamon and sugar in my coffee, though Chris takes his black.
Pro Tip:
Go early. It gets busy and it's not that big of a place.
Marquette Mountain Resort
Whether you’re a seasoned skier or just taking it slow (literally, thanks to the kind lift operators), this mountain offers a peaceful and welcoming experience. One cool thing that we're sure you won't miss seeing is the hill guardian, a 30-foot robot sculpture watching over the trails! Do watch for the tin man as you're going up one of the lifts. He's among the trees and not quite so easy to see.
We're not sure if it was the hill guardian or the nice long greens we were skiing, but neither of us fell once -- a skiing miracle for me. They have slopes for more experienced and aggressive downhill skiers as well. However, I would be remiss if I did not mention how kind the lift operators were to us. It's been a few years since we've skied. When we went, it was our first time at Marquette Mountain. I chatted about it with the lift operator. He offered to slow it down for us at the bottom and the top. It was a quiet Monday morning, so he remembered us the next time we came around and offered to do it again. Those sorts of considerations make taking on adventures like this comfortable and fun.
Pro Tip:
If you're newer to downhill skiing or like us, a bit rusty at downhill skiing, go at a time unlikely to be busy and communicate your concerns. People love to help. If you've never skied before, for your safety and the safety of others, it's a great idea to take a lesson.
Iron Bay Restaurant & Drinkery
After skiing, Iron Bay is the perfect place to reward yourself with a cider-mead blend or a local brew, or try one of their remarkable seasonal craft cocktails. They even have warm options in winter, like Mulled Wine, Irish Coffee, and the like.
Chris highly recommends their whitefish tacos -- they are among the best fish tacos he's ever had. They might even be the best. I love their Roasted Winter Vegetable Salad. It is fresh, delicious, and warm – a must for me when it comes to eating salad in winter.
Their service is warm, friendly, and kind. Just what you need after a big day of skiing.
When you're heading out, Historic Photo Fun – Before you leave, drop a few quarters into the vintage slideshow machine outside Iron Bay Restaurant to see snapshots of Marquette’s past.
Pro Tip:
Order the warm Caramel Apple Pie for dessert!
